On 2026-10-14 the live Eastern Mediterranean spawn stopped with "Souda group #1: CMO added nothing". Two Builder bugs caused it.
Jump jets need a flight deck. The deploy step estimated an AV-8B for L 173 Chios, a landing ship. Chios's one helicopter pad passed the jump-jet rule (plain pads, as LHA 6 and LHD 1 list them), but CMO took no jet aboard. In the database:
operate_problemnow requires a flight deck (a deck runway, a VTOL deck, a carrier deck or a runway), and then a pad, deck or runway of the jet's size.Standing off keeps the theatre. The same group, led by Chios as a "big deck", stood off Russian anti-ship reach. That took it 550 nm from Souda, to off Malta, far outside its Crete theatre. Now the stand-off search stays inside the group's theatre. When no point there is out of reach, it takes the nearest station that works (the start if it works), and its note says it is in reach. Groups without a stand-off requirement are placed as before.
Tests:
test_rules.py: a big deck takes a jump jet; a landing ship's single pad and a helicopter ship's six don't; helicopters still fit.test_geography.py: a group whose whole theatre is in reach stays in it with the note; with no theatre it is still moved out of reach. The live plan was fixed by hand: the AV-8B was dropped, and the Chios group placed north of Souda Bay.
